Ford Fiesta: a study by AutoportalFord Fiesta
The American auto giant Ford Motors has many popular cars in most of the markets of the world. The sedan Fiesta is one among them. After the introduction in the international market in 1976 the car has undergone many facelifts. The Ford India Private Limited, a subsidiary of the Ford Motors has introduced this C segment sedan in India very late in 2005. A refreshed version of the Fiesta has been launched in 2011. The car has not been accepted well because of a high price tag. During the 2014 Indian auto expo the sixth generation Fiesta has been showcased with a saloon type body.
The latest version of the Ford Fiesta launched in June 2014 comes in three diesel variants; the Ambiente, the Trend and the Titanium. All the variants have manual transmission. The Ford Fiesta price is Rupees 8.50 to 10.19 lakh. The Ford Fiesta comes in colours of panther black, smoke grey, moon dust silver, golden bronze, paprika red and diamond white.
Among the C segment sedans the Fiesta has one of the best external appearances. From the front the car looks like the SUV EcoSport with a radiator grille having 4 chrome slats and chrome surrounds, twin chamber head light fittings that flow to the back of the hood and the new bumper. Aerodynamic creases on the sides, body coloured electrical ORVMs with turn indicators, rear bumper with a chrome strip and well designed rear lamp fittings give the car a luxury sedan look.
The spacious cabin of the Fiesta is loaded with comfort and safety features. The standard features include 1 air bag, ABS, EBD, a manual AC, power steering with tilt adjustment, fabric upholstery, full folding rear seat and Electric ORVMs. The top Titanium variant has 2 air bags, a 2 Din music system, an automatic AC, leather wrapped steering wheel with audio controls, reverse parking sensors, a keyless entry, rain sensing wipers, push buttons for start/stop and a 2 Din music system.
The mileage of the Fiesta has improved by 1.5 kmpl after the 2014 facelift. The 1.5 litre Fiesta diesel engines give mileages of 25.01 kmpl. The car takes 9.3 sec for 0 to 100 kmph acceleration and the top speed is 169 kmph. The 4320 mm long Fiesta has a wheel base of 2489 mm and a ground clearance of 156 mm with boot of 430 litres.
The sales figures for the last six months show a gradual reduction in the sales of the Fiesta. Large cabins, top mileages and modern looks are the plus points of the Fiesta. The main rivals are the likes of the Maruti Ciaz, the Hyundai Verna and the Skoda Rapid.
